Posture and Technique
As I have mentioned, ballet costume and their traditional clothes/fashion had a big influence on ballet posture. And, ballet technique had evolved from the posture. Barre work, centre work and jumps, dancers required to keep the correct posture whole way through the lesson to archive higher level of technique and posture and technique have an inextricable link. I have realised this when my teacher explained us with his demonstration, then he gently asked us "Do you understand? Ballet is not a technique". Since then, I have realised there is no technique in ballet, it is within us. When we are walking on the street, picking up a rubbish, opening a door, those normal simple movements should already become ballet. Ballet is not something we do, it is something we BE. The real technique is in the correct posture, correct posture itself the technique.
